Be a part of the discovery

2FP is built on giving

Our scientists and volunteers generously give their time, energy, and ideas — many of us work second jobs and dedicate nights, weekends, and early mornings to move the Two Frontiers Project forward.

Our industry partners step up with vital support, donating gear, reagents, and expertise — from dive equipment to DNA sequencing tools.

And of course, none of this would be possible without you. Our donors and sponsors fuel this mission with their belief, generosity, and resources. Thank you for being part of the team.

Our mission

At the Two Frontiers Project, we explore the vast, invisible ecosystems that shape our planet — from ocean floors to riverbeds, from human health to spaceflight. Our work brings together cutting-edge science and global collaboration to uncover the microbes that sustain life and hold the keys to our future.

Microbes make up more than half of Earth’s biomass — yet we’ve barely scratched the surface of their diversity — your support helps us map this uncharted territory, train the next generation of scientists, and share discoveries that benefit both people and the planet.

How much does our science cost?

  • $15,000

    A small scale sampling expedition

  • $300

    Sequencing a single sample

  • $450

Monthly data storage and analysis costs

  • $2,500

Characterizing the carbon sequestration capability of a new species

  • $8

The materials required to collect and process a single sample

  • $750

Monthly lab consumables (gloves, reagents, test tubes, petri plates, etc)
